Hmm... to be honest: very difficult topic. On the one hand, discord actually makes communication a bit more direct and easier. But then, of course, it's the same as you say: maybe someone feels pressured if they don't read through the whole history on discord or they're accused of spending their time differently because they're playing something (you can see that on discord).
I think discord is good when you're working on something together or when you might need help or if you want to get to know someone better.
A forum somehow slows things down, but I have to admit that it's a bit old school and you always have the problem of spam.
